Work visas & skilled migration

QA and software-testing professionals may qualify for employer-sponsored or skilled-worker routes.

Visa eligibility is never automatic because you work in QA. It depends on the exact job duties, occupation classification, salary, qualifications, experience, employer sponsorship and the immigration rules in force when you apply. The routes below are examples to research as you build your career.

Why countries need QA professionals

More software creates more need for quality engineering.

Banks, government services, healthcare platforms, telecoms, e-commerce, logistics, manufacturers and technology companies all depend on software working reliably. As organisations release faster, move to cloud platforms and automate more of their operations, they need people who can prevent defects, automate regression checks, validate APIs and integrations, test performance, investigate failures and give teams confidence to release safely.

Demand is not identical everywhere: opportunities vary by country, city, sector, seniority and economic cycle. The strongest international candidates usually combine practical QA fundamentals with automation, API testing, CI/CD, cloud and clear evidence of real project work.

US

United States

Why QA is needed: The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects software QA analyst and tester employment to grow 6% from 2025 to 2035, with continued software expansion in AI, IoT, robotics and automation supporting demand.

Routes to research: H-1B for qualifying specialty-occupation roles, O-1 for people who meet the extraordinary-ability standard, and L-1 for qualifying intracompany transfers.

Long-term route: Employment-based permanent residence may be available through categories such as EB-2 or EB-3 where the applicant and sponsoring role meet the requirements.

Useful QA depth: Automation engineering, API testing, CI/CD, cloud platforms, Playwright, Cypress and Selenium.

UK

United Kingdom

Why QA is needed: The UK has an established software-testing profession across sectors such as financial services, digital government, e-commerce, SaaS and consulting. IT quality and testing professionals are explicitly recognised in the Skilled Worker occupation framework.

Routes to research: Skilled Worker visa for an eligible job with an approved sponsor, plus Global Talent for people who meet the leader or potential-leader criteria in digital technology.

Long-term route: Skilled Worker holders may be able to apply for settlement after 5 years. Global Talent settlement can be possible after 3 or 5 years depending on the route.

Useful QA depth: Test automation, API and integration testing, cloud applications, Agile delivery, DevOps and CI/CD.

CA

Canada

Why QA is needed: Canada has an established software-testing workforce in technology, finance and other digital industries. Demand varies by province: recent Job Bank data shows some regions have experienced tester shortages while the national market is currently more competitive.

Routes to research: Employer-specific work permits, including employers using the Global Talent Stream where the role qualifies, plus skilled immigration through Express Entry and Provincial Nominee Programs.

Occupation reference: Canada's NOC includes 22222 — Information systems testing technicians (TEER 2). The correct NOC always depends on the actual duties of the role.

Useful QA depth: Automation, API testing, test management, CI/CD, cloud testing and strong evidence of professional experience.

DE

Germany

Why QA is needed: Germany's official skilled-worker portal reported around 109,000 vacant IT positions in 2025. Quality engineering, automation and software-testing skills support the wider need for experienced people who can help businesses build and operate dependable digital products.

Routes to research: EU Blue Card, work visa for qualified professionals, visa for professionally experienced workers, and the Opportunity Card for eligible job seekers.

Long-term route: EU Blue Card holders can qualify for a settlement permit after 27 months of qualifying employment, reduced to 21 months with B1 German when the other requirements are met.

Useful QA depth: Automation, Java or Python, API testing, CI/CD, cloud platforms and engineering-level test design.

AU

Australia

Why QA is needed: Software testing is an established occupation in Australia. Jobs and Skills Australia records software testers working across professional and technical services, finance and insurance, and public administration — sectors where reliable software is operationally important.

Routes to research: Skills in Demand (subclass 482) employer sponsorship, Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186), and points-tested or nominated skilled visas where the occupation and applicant meet the relevant criteria.

Occupation reference: Software Tester is recognised in ANZSCO as 261314 and appears on the Core Skills Occupation List used for the 482 Core Skills stream.

Useful QA depth: Automation, API testing, performance testing, Selenium, Cypress, Postman, JMeter and k6.

IE

Ireland

Why QA is needed: Ireland's technology, financial-services and multinational software ecosystem creates ongoing need for ICT capability. The government's Critical Skills list identifies several ICT professional categories as shortage areas, although the exact classification of a QA role depends on its duties.

Routes to research: Critical Skills Employment Permit for eligible high-skill occupations and the General Employment Permit for a broader range of eligible roles.

Long-term route: Critical Skills permit holders can move to eligible residence permission without a further employment permit after completing the permit period, and long-term residence may become available after the required residence period.

Useful QA depth: Automation engineering, software testing, API testing, CI/CD and broader ICT professional capability.

NL

Netherlands

Why QA is needed: The Dutch labour market remains tight for a number of ICT roles, and UWV has identified testers among harder-to-fill higher-level ICT functions. QA opportunities also sit across fintech, logistics, e-commerce, SaaS and enterprise technology.

Routes to research: Highly Skilled Migrant residence permit for qualifying employment with an IND-recognised sponsor, subject to the applicable salary and other requirements.

Long-term route: A permanent residence application can generally become possible after 5 consecutive years of valid residence when the other conditions are met.

Useful QA depth: Automation, API and integration testing, CI/CD, cloud-native applications and modern quality engineering.

NZ

New Zealand

Why QA is needed: New Zealand explicitly includes Software Tester (ANZSCO 261314) on its Green List of roles it needs workers for, subject to the listed remuneration, qualification and immigration requirements.

Routes to research: Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) for qualifying full-time roles with an accredited employer, with residence options depending on the occupation, skill level and individual circumstances.

Employer requirement: The AEWV generally requires a qualifying job offer from an accredited employer and the applicant must meet the role's skill and experience requirements.

Useful QA depth: Test automation, API testing, Agile delivery, CI/CD, cloud systems and strong practical experience.

Important: Taokudi QA Academy provides career education, not immigration or legal advice. Completing a programme does not create visa eligibility, sponsorship or a right to work in another country. Immigration rules, salary thresholds and occupation lists change, so always check the linked government source or obtain advice from a suitably qualified immigration professional before making decisions.
